Getting Started in Hydroponics

Hydroponics Basics: Q & A
Hydroponics aptly means “working water.” No soil is used in hydroponics. Instead, plants are supported in inert growing media like those used for seed starting or the propagation of cuttings, and plant roots have direct access to nutrient-infused water. Essentially, plants are fed breakfast in bed!

Selecting and Preparing the Indoor Garden
Space is usually the most limiting factor in planning the grow room. If you don't have a spacious area that receives lots of sunlight, contain your space for efficient use of your HID lights. Because temperature and humidity in them can be controlled with some precision, unused closets and basements often provide the best areas.

Keep it cool and dry in your grow room! Most plants prefer 72 to 75 degrees with about 75 percent humidity. An overly hot garden will produce tall, thin plants with little harvest potential. An overly moist garden is a breeding ground for molds and other plant-damaging things. A cool, somewhat dry garden is best for a bountiful harvest.
